TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF CHEKELEI SECONDARY SCHOOL

Teachers and students of Chekelei Secondary School in Madumu village, Korogwe District, Tanga Region, have thanked President Samia Suluhu Hassan for ensuring that they have all the basic services, including electricity and various tools, a situation they say will help improve the profession in the school.

They expressed their gratitude today, 26 March 2024, when the Rural Energy Board (REB) and the management of the Rural Energy Agency (REA) visited the school and handed over a modern printer, its ink and printing papers, fulfilling the promise made yesterday in March this year with the former Deputy Minister of Energy, Stephen Byabato, during the visit of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals.

Addressing the delegation led by the Chairman of the Board, Ambassador Major General Jacob Kingu (retd), the Principal of the school, Siwema Mashoto, said the presence of REA electricity along with the printing machine and its equipment handed over to them will help improve the level of education for the students.

“Mama Samia has certainly done a lot and REA has honoured her. We are very grateful. After some time, come back and ask us about the changes in the professional level because we believe it will be better,” he stressed.

For his part, the Chairman of the Board, Ambassador Kingu, urged the teachers and students to take good care of the equipment given to them and to use it productively so that it brings the intended benefits.

Explaining the purpose of the visit, the REA Director General, who is also the Board Secretary, said the agency wants to see all citizens who have access to electricity using it productively so that the government’s goal of improving rural life can be achieved.

“That is why we have come to you today to fulfil the promise made to you by our leaders. We want the citizens to understand that just having electricity is not enough if it is not used to change lives. The printer and other equipment we have given you today is to make the presence of electricity in the school here productive,” he explained.

In a further step, the Director General has promised that REA will provide good stoves to all the teachers of the school with the various leaders who attended the event, so that they can be good ambassadors of President Samia’s agenda to put firewood on mothers’ heads by enabling them to use clean energy for cooking.

He has also promised that REA will complete the wiring of all the buildings in the school so that the electricity supplied can be used more productively.

“We will send experts to make an assessment and then do the work immediately.”

And the Secretary of Chama Cha Mapinduzi, Chekelei Ward, Mohamedi Fumbili, has congratulated the government through REA, quoting words from the Holy Books that “he who promises and fulfils will be rewarded by God”.

He added that REA’s event was the implementation of the ruling party’s manifesto, so it was to honour its chairperson, Mama Samia Suluhu Hassan, and the government as a whole.

The Rural Energy Board is in Tanga region to attend working meetings and is taking the opportunity to visit and inspect various projects being implemented by the Rural Energy Agency.
