On 15 September 2024, a two-day training programme commenced in Tanzania’s Singida region, with the objective of enhancing the Permanent Register of Voters. This initiative comprises practical assessments utilising Biometric Voter Registration (BVR) machines, with the objective of enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of voter information.
Training and Implementation
The enhancement process is scheduled to commence on 25 September and conclude at the end of October, encompassing the Singida region and parts of the Dodoma and Manyara regions. To guarantee a seamless and efficacious update, the individuals entrusted with the administration of the Permanent Register of Voters at the Dodoma Regional level and within local councils are undergoing this indispensable training.
Objectives of the Training
The objective of this training is to equip participants with the requisite skills and knowledge to efficiently manage voter data, thereby ensuring the integrity and reliability of the electoral process. In this way, it contributes to the broader objective of enhancing democratic processes in Tanzania.
Inauguration of Training Session for Voter Register Enhancement
On 14 September 2024, Hon. Asina Omari, a member of the Independent National Electoral Commission and a High Court Judge, inaugurated a training session for officials. The objective of this session is to enhance the Permanent Register of Voters in the Manyara Region, which encompasses the Mbulu Town Council, Kiteto, and Simanjoro District.
Concurrent Training Sessions
The training is being conducted in conjunction with sessions in the Dodoma and Singida regions. This is in anticipation of the fifth phase of the ongoing process of improving the Permanent Register of Voters. The forthcoming phase will encompass the following:

Dodoma Region: Comprising the Dodoma City Council, Bahi, Chamwino, and Kongwa District Councils.

Manyara Region: Encompassing the Mbulu Town Council and Kiteto District.

Singida Region: Included in the training scope.
Schedule for Updating Notebooks
The scheduled commencement date for the updating of the notebooks at the aforementioned locations is 25 September 2024, with the process scheduled to conclude on 1 October 2024. The designated centres will be accessible from 2:00 am until 12:00 pm.
Training for Improvement of the Permanent Register of Voters
On 14 September 2024, the Vice Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Hon. Judge Rufaa (Retired) Mbarouk Salim Mbarouk, initiated a training programme for electoral officials with the objective of enhancing the Permanent Register of Voters at the regional level and within the Dodoma Region and its constituent councils. This initiative represents a preliminary step towards the enhancement of the Permanent Register of Voters in the region.
Concurrent Training Sessions
The training programme was implemented concurrently with the regions of Singida and Manyara. This represents a preliminary step in the fifth phase of the Permanent Register of Voters improvement initiative. The initiative will encompass the following:
