Revitalising Tunduru’s Cashew Industry and Tackling Elephant Invasions: President Samia Hassan’s Directives in Tanzania
Presidential Directive for Cashew Nut Factory Reactivation
[su_dropcap style=”flat” size=”5″]H[/su_dropcap]er Excellency the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has issued a directive to the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in conjunction with the Treasury Registrar’s Office, with the objective of ensuring the reactivation of the cashew nut factory situated in Tunduru District, Ruvuma Region. This initiative has been devised in order to address the failure of the privatised investor to operate the facility in accordance with the terms of the contract.
Addressing Economic Challenges
The reactivation of the cashew nut factory in Tunduru represents a strategic initiative on the part of the government, designed to address the economic challenges currently facing the region. Cashew nuts represent a significant cash crop in Tanzania, and the factory’s reopening is anticipated to enhance cashew production, generate employment prospects, and stimulate economic expansion within the district.
Revitalizing the Cashew Industry
The cashew nut industry in Tanzania has encountered significant challenges in recent years, largely due to a decline in global cashew prices and increased competition from other cashew-producing countries. The government’s intervention through the reactivation of the Tunduru factory is intended to revitalise the industry by providing support to cashew farmers and to increase the production and processing of cashew nuts.
Ensuring Accountability
The directive issued by President Hassan serves to emphasise the government’s commitment to ensuring accountability throughout the privatisation process. The inability of the privatised investor to operate the cashew nut factory in Tunduru has resulted in economic losses and the forfeiture of potential opportunities for the people of the district. The government’s intervention serves as a clear indication that it will not condone the mismanagement or neglect of public assets.
Empowering Local Communities
Furthermore, the reactivation of the cashew nut factory in Tunduru is consistent with the government’s objective of fostering local community empowerment. The government’s objective is to enhance the quality of life for residents in the district by providing assistance to cashew farmers and creating employment opportunities in the cashew industry, thereby contributing to sustainable economic development.
At a public meeting held at the CCM Stadium in Tunduru District, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan gave the order today. The President underscored the significance of revitalising the cashew nut industry in Tunduru, which is a prominent cashew-producing region in Tanzania.
Addressing Elephant Invasions
Moreover, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has instructed the leaders of the Ruvuma Region to address the issue of elephants encroaching upon agricultural lands in Namtumbo and Tunduru Districts.
The objective is to facilitate the resumption of local activities, particularly agricultural operations, while maintaining the security of the population.
Elephant Mitigation Measures
President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has advised the public to exercise caution and has reassured them that the government has implemented measures to guarantee their safety in the event of potential elephant attacks. These measures include:
* The deployment of patrol cars
* The utilisation of drones to deter elephants
* The reinforcement of police stations
Inauguration of Mineral Market
Furthermore, President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has inaugurated a mineral market in Tunduru District, constructed through a joint venture between mineral traders and the Tunduru District Council.
The market is designed to provide a regulated and secure environment for mineral trading in the district.
Support for Small-Scale Miners
President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan has announced that the government acknowledges the contribution of small-scale miners and is pursuing a range of initiatives to support them, including:
* The acquisition of mining machinery
