Today, the 28th of March 2024, history was made at the Mwanza Airport Cargo Terminal with the official signing of a Sh29 billion contract for the completion of a modern passenger terminal at Mwanza Airport.

Addressing the people, the official guest of the event, Hon. Prof. Makame Mbarawa (MB), the Minister of Transport, said that the government has continued to improve various airports in the country and that more than Shs. 1.1 trillion has been spent and that he has a lot of confidence in TAA who are handling the works.

Mwanza AirportProf Mbarawa also urged TAA to invest commercially in the airports so that the infrastructure being built will help boost the country’s economy and used the opportunity to point out that Bukoba Airport is safe and that planes are landing and taking off all the time.

In his greetings from the region, Mwanza Regional Commissioner Hon. CPA Amos Makalla thanked President Samia for accepting the request to ensure that the building is developed and for accepting the proposal to hand over the construction to the Airports Authority so that it can be completed quickly.

He also noted that the presence of the building, which has the capacity to accommodate 600 passengers at a time, as well as the expansion of the stadium, will promote tourism and help in the direct transportation of fish fillets and other goods from Mwanza, as well as promoting tourism.

The Tanzania Airports Authority (TAA) Director General, Mr Musa Mbura, noted that from 2020, the government has made further improvements to the site, including the extension of the runway, the construction of a cargo building, a weather information centre, a building and aircraft guidance systems.

He added that in 2024/25, the Airports Authority (TAA) will make improvements to the commercial area, the car park, the entrance and exit road and the road leading to the airport, which will be completed within 10 months under the local contractor, Taifa Mining and Civil LTD.
