Tanzania’s Minister of Defence and National Service Welcomes Angola’s Minister of Defence

On the 7th of January 2025, Tanzania’s Minister for Defence and National Service, Hon. Dr. Stergomena Lawrence Tax, warmly welcomed a delegation from the Government of Angola. The delegation was led by the Angolan Minister of Defence, Hon. Joao Ernesto Das Santos. The reception took place in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city and a major centre of diplomatic activity.

Arrival of the Angolan Delegation

The Angolan delegation arrived in Tanzania on 6th January 2025 for an official visit. The delegation is led by retired General Joao Ernesto Dos Santos, Angola’s Minister of Defence. The visit is aimed at promoting cooperation and discussing various areas of mutual interest between the two countries’ Ministries of Defence.

During the visit, Tanzania’s Minister of Defence and National Service, Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax, and Angola’s Minister of Defence, retired General Joao Ernesto Dos Santos, held discussions focusing on several key areas. These discussions included:

  • Strengthening bilateral relations between the Ministries of Defence of Tanzania and Angola.
  • Explore opportunities for cooperation in various defence-related areas.
  • Exchange of experience and expertise in military matters.
  • Strengthening military diplomacy between the two countries.

Planned Activities

The Angolan delegation is also expected to visit various locations in Tanzania. The purpose of these visits is to:

The Angolan Minister of Defence, retired General Joao Ernesto Dos Santos, made an official visit to Tanzania on 9 January 2025. The visit included a tour of the Ruvu JKT camp in the Pwani region.

During his visit to Ruvu Camp, Minister Dos Santos had the opportunity to observe and learn about various income-generating projects being implemented by the National Service Corps. He expressed his admiration for how the National Service Corps uses Tanzania’s favourable climate and environment to develop these projects.

Reception and Project Briefing

The delegation of the Angolan Minister of Defence, retired General Joao Ernesto Dos Santos, was received at the Ruvu Camp by the Head of the National Service Corps Production Organisation, SUMAJKT, Brigadier General Petro Ngata, who also represented the Head of the National Service Corps. During the visit, Minister Dos Santos was given a tour and briefing on various agricultural, livestock and fish farming projects, as well as the Ruvu JKT Wildlife Tourism Area.

In conclusion, the visit of the Angolan Minister of Defence to Tanzania highlighted the strong defence and development cooperation between the two countries. The income-generating projects implemented by the National Service Corps are an excellent example of how the military can contribute to economic and social development.
