The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has encouraged followers of the Islamic religion to continue to preserve and teach their children to read the Holy Quran and to increase alms giving to the needy, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
President Dr. Mwinyi said this during the 24th final of the Holy Quran Africa Competition organised by Al Hikma Foundation with the participation of 22 different countries in and outside Africa at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam on March 24, 2024.
President Dr Mwinyi also urged Tanzanians to continue to maintain peace, unity and solidarity and to continue to take steps for the development of the country.
On the other hand, President Dr Mwinyi has congratulated Al Hikma Foundation for organising the grand competition that promotes Tanzania by involving different countries.
He also congratulated the People’s Bank of Zanzibar (PBZ) for sponsoring the competition every year.
The first winner of the competition is Ibrahim Sow from Côte d’Ivoire who won 27 million shillings, the second winner Haafith Abdulkariim Kabiito from Uganda who won 17.2 million shillings, the third winner Kamil Almin Swaleh from Tanzania who won 11.6 million shillings, the fourth winner Kamilou Koura from Togo who won 1 million shillings and the fifth winner Idris Nshimwe from Burundi who won 4.5 million shillings.
