The meeting was organised in collaboration between the African Union (AU), the EU, Africa CDC and the Belgian Government, which currently holds the Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The meeting agreed to strengthen cooperation between African countries and the EU on health issues, including strengthening health governance systems, investing in health research, strengthening social protection systems, developing primary health care services and promoting the use of digital technology in health service delivery.
The health sector is one of the six (6) areas prioritised by the EU in its Global Gateway Programme, which aims to stimulate investment of around €150 billion in Africa from the EU Commission, EU Member States and the EU private sector between 2021 and 2027. Currently, our country is benefiting from various programmes in the health sector that are being implemented in the country in partnership with EU member states, international organisations and the European private sector.
