In a recent address,  President Hussein Ali Mwinyi, the President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, highlighted the significant role women played in achieving the union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.

In a debate organised by the Tanzanian Women’s Union (UWT) to evaluate the position of Tanzanian women in the 60 years of the Tanzanian Union, President Mwinyi commended the UWT for its continuous efforts in strengthening the Revolutionary Party (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) and uniting it with the people.
